Kenneth Walker III news: The Seattle Seahawks and the running back are expected to part ways before the 2026-27 season.
The Seattle Seahawks and running back Kenneth Walker III had a Cinderella type of season during their 2025-26 run, with very few experts expecting them to go all the way but both the Seahawks and Walker proving them wrong. However, Walker is going to be expensive come free agency on Wednesday, March 11, and he’s largely expected to cut ties with the team.
Walker started in all 17 regular season games for the Seattle Seahawks and was a force on the field. He closed out the regular run with 221 carries for 1,027 rushing yards and five touchdowns, according to NFL research, and averaged 4.6 yards per attempt. He’s a big reason they got to the big game and won it.
But, the Seattle Seahawks might not be able to afford Walker anymore. In the case that they let him walk, at least now, they have someone who could step in as a dynamic running back at a lower price.
Seattle Seahawks Running Back Kenneth Walker III Is Likely Gone, NFL Analysts Say
In a Friday, March 6, feature for Fox Sports, Greg Auman, Ben Arthur, Henry McKenna, Eric Williams and Ralph Vacchiano talk about the Seahawks’ running back issues and the available players in free agency. They see Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier a solid addition.
“With Kenneth Walker III likely moving on to greener pastures and finding a more lucrative deal elsewhere, Allgeier provides a good fallback option for Seattle,” they note in the piece. “The bruising runner out of BYU is a good fit for Seattle’s zone running scheme and should pair nicely with Zach Charbonnet once he returns from season-ending knee surgery.”
On top of Allgeier, they note that the Seattle Seahawks may “also look to add a pass-catching back in the draft to add to the running back room.”
Kenneth Walker III Landing Spots: Here’s Where the Seattle Seahawks Running Back May End Up
As for where Walker will end up, they think the Kansas City Chiefs are the most likely landing spot. Walker and Patrick Mahomes would make for a dynamic duo.
“Adding a dynamic running back should be a priority for the Chiefs, who had the NFL’s 25th-ranked rushing attack last season,” they state of the idea. “Both Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco are entering free agency, and there’s no telling how Patrick Mahomes’ scrambling ability will be impacted coming off a torn ACL.”
They add, “The return of Eric Bienemy, a former running back, as offensive coordinator also bodes in favor of a Walker pursuit.
Walker was named the Super Bowl LX MVP. “If I would have told myself as a kid, I wouldn’t have guessed that I would be the one to win the MVP,” Walker told reporters after winning the award, according to NBC News. “So, it’s a surreal moment.”
“I’m really happy for Ken. He played a tremendous game,” Seattle coach Mike Macdonald said after the big game. “Everyone really dedicated themselves to the run game today, which is something we had to get going to really control the game, and I think this is one of the best versions of Ken that we’ve [seen] up to this point.”
