Khalil Mack returns for year five with the Chargers.

Less than a week ago, it was announced that Khalil Mack will return for a 13th season in the NFL, with all options available for the player.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reveals that Mack will return to the Los Angeles Chargers on a one-year deal. It will be the defender’s fifth season with the franchise.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reports that the EDGE rusher will receive a one-year, $18 million fully guaranteed deal.

Mack recorded 36.5 sacks, 195 total tackles, 21 pass deflections and 13 forced fumbles in his four seasons with Los Angeles, earning Pro Bowl nods.

The nine-time Pro Bowler signed a one-year deal with the Bolts for the 2025 season after mulling retirement, looking to win a Super Bowl.

Now returning on another one-year deal with the Los Angeles Chargers, it appears Khalil Mack believes his best shot to win the Lombardi trophy is with the franchise.

Chargers Aren’t Done Keeping Key Players

The Los Angeles Chargers are looking to keep more pass rushers from the 2025 season.

According to Jeremy Fowler, the Bolts are also looking into extending EDGE rusher Odafe Oweh, who is in line for a big payday. Spotrac projects Oweh’s market value to be a three-year, $58 million deal.

LA had one of the highest cap spaces for the upcoming free agency, nearing almost $100 million. With Mack’s deal and the signing of center Tyler Biadasz, the Bolts will still have more than enough money to retain the player.

Oweh recorded 7.5 sacks in 12 regular season games in his one season with Los Angeles and 3 playoff sacks in his one postseason game with the organization.

“I think there’s a lot of really good personnel. Oweh flashed … there’s certain guys on this defense that have really interesting skillsets,” new defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary said at his introductory press conference, via FanSided.

“I just think there’s a lot of pieces we’re really going to be able to work with and develop their game.”

The Bolts can get a deal done before the start of free agency and not have to deal with other teams trying to steal the player.

Other Landing Spots for Khalil Mack

As mentioned, all options were available when Khalil Mack decided he would return for the 2026 season.

Jeremy Fowler reveals that the Dallas Cowboys were a fit for the EDGE rusher as the team looks to find a replacement for Micah Parsons, either short-term or long-term.

According to Over the Cap, the Cowboys have less than $250,000 in cap space, making it hard for them to sign Mack on a fully guaranteed deal.

As the free agency legal tampering period approaches, other teams will have to look elsewhere for a proven pass rusher who can take down the quarterback.
