Alejandro Garnacho was equal parts delighted and relieved after a dramatic fifth-round FA Cup win that saw the Blues beat Wrexham 4-2 after extra time.
It was a game that had almost everything - goals, moments of magic, controversy, a red card, VAR interventions and a dramatic finish – but the Blues got the win over the line and secured our place in the quarter-final of the competition.
Alejandro was heavily involved in the opener and was a thorn in the side of Wrexham all night before delivering the sucker punch as we took the lead in extra time through the winger. Speaking after the game, Garnacho knew he’d been in a classic FA Cup tie, highlighting the Blues’ resilience throughout the tie.
‘It’s an incredible win,’ he opened. ‘I think it was one of our hardest games of the season so far. It was a battle, and it’s always a fight when you have to come to this kind of stadium - it can be harder than a Premier League game at times.
‘We have to be ready for everything when you play in this type of game. We have to be ready for every moment, and it was even more difficult going into extra time, but we saw it through. We’re proud today, and we’re in the next round.’
Garnacho, who played the full 120 minutes, praised the efforts of our substitutes in affecting the game, stressing the importance that every member of the squad is ready to make an impact.
‘In football you need a full squad to win trophies because we play every three days,’ he continued. ‘You have to trust in everyone, and we have great players. Now were in the quarter finals, and we will try to win the FA Cup. It’s always good to win a trophy.’
With our huge final 16 tie against PSG to come next week, focus will now turn to preparations ahead of the Champions League tie.
‘We will recover now and be ready for Wednesday,’ Garnacho added. ‘We have a team to win, so we will try to do that.’
