Brighton are “open” to selling Chelsea transfer target Bart Verbruggen this summer, according to reports.

Newcastle World claim that the Blues, Tottenham and the Magpies are all competing for the 23-year-old’s signature, with a move at the end of the season very much on the cards.

Verbruggen has been identified by all three clubs as a potential new number one. He is already first choice for his country, having been capped 26 times by the Netherlands.

The keeper also has plenty of Premier League experience, having been a regular starter for Brighton over the last three seasons.

How much would Verbruggen cost?

While Newcastle World don’t mention a potential price tag, other sources have suggested that a fee of around £50m could be enough to tempt the Seagulls into selling.

Considering Verbruggen is still in his early twenties, and could potentially be the club’s no.1 for a decade or more, it is not an unreasonable amount to pay.

Would Chelsea be blocking the path of another young goalkeeper?

Many have been impressed with the performances of Mike Penders during his loan spell at Strasbourg this season, and there are some who already believe he could be ready to play for the Blues. Buy a Chelsea goalkeeper kit at the Nike store here.

Verbruggen’s arrival at Stamford Bridge would certainly complicate matters for Penders, although a lot depends on the club’s recruitment department.

Co-sporting director Paul Winstanley and goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts did a lot of the groundwork on signing Verbruggen for Brighton prior to their move to Chelsea, so it seems the pair would be the main driving force behind the transfer if a formal approach is made for Verbruggen.
