Chelsea’s impact on Wrexham dressing room shared by Phil Parkinson after FA Cup tie

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has given some insight into what his side’s dressing room was like after losing to Chelsea on Saturday.

Wrexham took the lead twice against Liam Rosenior’s men but were eventually beaten 4-2 in the FA Cup fifth-round tie.

Chelsea simply had too much firepower, with Joao Pedro coming off the bench to score another goal. Alan Shearer was very impressed with Pedro, who bagged his 18th goal of the season.

Chelsea silenced Wrexham dressing room

It was a very exciting occasion for Wrexham, but the night ended in disappointment to the point where not much was said in the dressing room after the full-time whistle.

Speaking about his team’s mood following their elimination from the FA Cup, Parkinson said via The Leader: “The lads have been immense. Of course the dressing room is quiet, which you’d expect after a defeat, but when we wake up tomorrow the lads can be immensely proud — and the supporters will be — of the way we’ve played.”

Wrexham came very close to knocking the Club World Cup winners out and progressing to the quarter-finals, so it is no surprise that the players were deflated after the game.

Callum Doyle made it 2-1 in the 78th minute before Josh Acheampong equalised for Chelsea and sent the match into extra time.

Alejandro Garnacho then put Chelsea in front for the first time in the tie and afterwards watched Pedro kill the game with a goal at the very end of the 120 minutes.

Garnacho was brilliant overall, picking up from his bright display against Aston Villa during the week.

What Liam Rosenior has said about Wrexham win

Many people were impressed with Wrexham’s performance against Chelsea at the Racecourse Ground, including Rosenior.

“That was every reason why the FA Cup is what it is,” the 41-year-old was quoted as saying by Chelsea’s official club website. “Wrexham were magnificent in their energy and how brave they were with their press and how they played.”

Rosenior and his men also have the chance to progress in the Champions League this month. They take on Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16, with the first leg being played next week.

Rosenior will have a plan to beat PSG, having enjoyed success against them in the past. Last season, his Strasbourg side managed to defeat them in a 2-1 win.
