Jermaine Beckford pinpoints exactly why Thierno Barry and Beto have struggled for Everton

Thierno Barry and Beto have endured a tough season for Everton.

The Everton strikers have scored a combined 11 goals in the Premier League this season, which simply isn’t good enough.

David Moyes recently admitted he’s been disappointed by Barry and Beto: “Well, I think we need more goals from them.

“I don’t think the numbers you’re talking about are the numbers I want. I want centre-forwards scoring far more goals.”

With that said, former Toffees centre-forward Jermaine Beckford has just pinpointed exactly why they’re both struggling in front of goal.

Jermaine Beckford says Thierno Barry and Beto’s finishing position is all wrong

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Beckford explained that Barry and Beto’s finishing positions are costing them key chances to score.

“I obviously watch another of my old teams Leeds United a lot and they’ve got the former Toffee Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha and physicality-wise, all four of them are very similar, they all run channels and are reasonably quick with a turn of pace,” the 42-year-old stated.

“The difference between the Leeds pair and what Thierno Barry and Beto are doing at Everton, is the finishing position.

“When they’ve been involved in the build-up play and move the ball out wide, then what do they do?

“The two boys at Leeds, they’re bombing straight for the box. You look at the two boys at the Toffees, they’re ‘yeah, maybe, we might get there a little bit, sometimes but not all the time.’”

Everton are already eyeing a new striker

Everton already have one eye on the summer transfer window as they look to upgrade on their striking options.

It has been reported that the Toffees are interested in signing Alexander Sorloth, who has been prolific for Atletico Madrid this term.

Juvetus’ Jonathan David has also been linked to the Hill Dickinson Stadium and now Fulham’s Raul Jimenez is emerging as a fresh target.

One thing the aforementioned trio all have in common is their experience. Clearly, Moyes isn’t looking to sign a project number nine again like Barry.
