Arsenal legend Ray Parlour believes striker Gabriel Jesus could decide to leave the club at the end of the current campaign as speculation continues over his long-term future in North London.
Jesus joined ARSENAL from Manchester City in 2022 and quickly became an important figure in manager Mikel Arteta’s attacking system. His pressing, movement and ability to link play helped transform Arsenal’s forward line during his first season at the club.
However, injuries and growing competition for places in the squad have led to increasing discussion about whether the Brazilian international could consider a new challenge in the summer transfer window.
Parlour has suggested that Jesus might feel the time is right to move on, particularly if his role in the team becomes less certain. The ex-England international reportedly believes that top players often look for regular starting opportunities, especially when they reach a key stage of their careers.
While Jesus remains highly regarded for his work rate and technical quality, Arsenal have continued to strengthen their attacking options as they attempt to compete for major trophies. Parlour reportedly believes that if Jesus feels he is no longer guaranteed a central role in Arteta’s plans, he could begin to consider other opportunities across Europe. ‘I think Jesus might leave at the end of the season, he is at that age where he wants to be playing week in, week out,’ Parlour told Metro via BetMGM.
‘We could lose him. We had four strikers when I played. That’s what I don’t understand. (Regardless of Jesus leaving), bring in another one anyway. That can give the other options a lift because they see the standard being set.’
Despite the speculation, ARSENAL are unlikely to actively push the striker toward the exit door. Jesus still offers valuable experience and leadership within the squad, and his ability to create chances as well as score goals makes him a useful tactical option.
From Arsenal’s perspective, any decision about the Brazilian’s future could depend on the club’s wider transfer strategy this summer. If the Gunners move to sign another high-profile striker, it could potentially change the dynamics of their attacking lineup.
For now, Jesus remains part of Arteta’s plans as Arsenal continue their push for success this season. But with transfer speculation already beginning to build ahead of the summer window, Parlour’s comments have added further intrigue to the debate surrounding the striker’s long-term future at the Emirates Stadium.
