Opinion: Chelsea fans have written off 'magnificent' player too quickly after Wrexham win

Alejandro Garnacho has faced a lot of criticism from Chelsea supporters since arriving from Manchester United last summer.

He has not been at the club for long, but a lot of Chelsea fans are ready to sacrifice Garnacho for RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande.

However, the winger has really sent a message to his critics over the Blues’ last couple of fixtures.

Alejandro Garnacho proves he’s been written off too quickly after Wrexham and Aston Villa performances

Garnacho was the best Chelsea player on the pitch on Saturday in the Club World Cup winners’ 4-2 victory over Wrexham.

It was Garnacho who helped to get Chelsea back into the game after his shot resulted in an own goal from Arthur Okonkwo.

With the score level at 2-2 and the game in extra time, the 21-year-old then hit a volley to put his side 3-2 up.

His critics will highlight the strength of the opposition, but Garnacho also put in a top performance a few days prior against Aston Villa.

That night, Garnacho provided an assist, created two big chances and registered six key passes. He also completed two crosses, according to Sofascore. It was one of the best performances that a Chelsea player has dropped on the wing this season.

What Liam Rosenior has said about Alejandro Garnacho following Wrexham display

Again, some are going to say it was only Wrexham, but Liam Rosenior was still pleased with Garnacho’s outing, nonetheless.

On Garnacho after the game, Rosenior said via Chelsea’s official club website: “His goal was top, his energy levels for 120 minutes were magnificent considering he played a full 90 on Wednesday.”

Garnacho now needs to start showing more consistency, but he is still only 21, which many Chelsea supporters tend to forget. The Argentina international is undoubtedly going to get better as time progresses.

He has been written off too early by many in the club’s fan base. But after his performances against Wrexham and Villa, maybe some of his doubters will give him more of a chance.

A player of his potential for just £40m could prove to be a fantastic bit of business.
