Liverpool have"got their heads in front"of Arsenal in race to sign star"unbelievable"winger

Liverpool are in pole position ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon this summer, former Everton CEO Keith Wyness has claimed.

The Reds continue to be linked with wide players ahead of the summer transfer window, with fresh blood badly needed in that area of the pitch.

Rio Ngumoha is a huge talent who is proving to be a good option for Liverpool, but he is the only backup to Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo, with the pair struggling for form this season.

Speaking to Football Insider, Wyness said that the Premier League champions are in pole position ahead of Arsenal to complete the summer signing of Gordon from Newcastle:

“His performances haven’t been great. He got booed off, I believe, at the weekend when Everton won up there. And of course, he wasn’t well received by the Everton fans as well. I think Arsenal may be a very good option for him, but I don’t see him fitting in quite that well into the Arsenal squad as I think he might do in Liverpool.

“So I think it’s still a two-horse race. And I’m not so sure Arsenal are really that keen right now. I think they will wait and see. But no, I think Liverpool, to me, have still got their heads in front.”

Would Anthony Gordon be a risk for Liverpool?

Gordon is a talented player – one who is expected to feature prominently for England at the 2026 World Cup – but Liverpool signing him would have its risks.

The 24-year-old hasn’t always been top form this season, only scoring four goals and registering two assists in 23 Premier League appearances, and he would cost a huge sum of money.

That said, he is still an excellent winger on his day, with Newcastle teammate Bruno Guimaraes waxing lyrical over him in the past:

“He has been unbelievable, always scoring and giving some assists. He is a lovely guy as well, I am very happy for him and hope he can get some minutes for England. For me to play against him will be massive for both of us and the club as well.”

If Liverpool signed Gordon, it would have the potential to be exciting business, but given his price tag, the Reds may be wise to look at cheaper options instead.
