“Special place in my heart” – Ryan Gravenberch explains why he signed new contract

Ryan Gravenberch has explained why he was compelled to sign a new contract with Liverpool to 2032, declaring the decision “really easy.”

Liverpool made an unexpected but welcome announcement with Gravenberch’s new long-term contract, which reportedly makes him the club’s fourth-highest paid player.

The midfielder arrived ahead of Jurgen Klopp‘s final season and has since been moulded into a key cog in the No. 6 role, playing 123 games to date and lifting two trophies.

His new deal will expire in 2032, when he is 30, and the decision to extend for that long was straightforward, having felt the trust of the club, as he told Liverpool’s official website.

“Really easy, to be honest!” the No. 38 said of his decision. “I felt directly the trust from the club, also from the manager.

“The decision for me was easy to make. My family is also happy here. We are now here almost three years, so I know everything already. I’m happy that I’m here.”

As for what the club means to him, Gravenberch added: “A special place in my heart, of course.

“What you said, I became a dad here, I also won the title with Liverpool. I think there are no better days than that. I’m really happy that I’m here.”

The pursuit of further success was also key to Gravenberch’s decision, with the Dutchman confident that the club’s squad is capable of lifting silverware.

“I’m still 23 years old, so I can do much better as well,” Gravenberch first said on his personal development. “But we will see in the many years to come.

“I think there will be a better version of myself in the future.”

He then added: “The Carabao Cup was nice, but then the Premier League in the stadium with the fans, it’s a feeling that you cannot describe. In the future, I want to win with Liverpool more silverware.

“We have a good group with experienced players and also young players, new players that came in. I think when it all comes together and it clicks, we’re going to be a really good team.”

Liverpool, meanwhile, are still pushing to agree an extension with Ibrahima Konate, but “little progress” has been made of late.
