Chelsea could look to renew Estêvão’s contract after the World Cup as they consider him a key part of their current and future plans.
That’s according to AS, who cover the 18-year-old today. The Spanish newspaper reports that Chelsea consider the winger as key to everything in their plans.
This week saw the Brazilian named as the Young Player of the Year at the London Football Awards. That was confirmation of Estêvão’s rising status at Stamford Bridge, where he has ‘stolen the hearts’ of Chelsea fans.
The club’s hierarchy are similarly enchanted. They consider him a key player for the present and future of the club. In fact, he is one of the few ‘untouchables’ within the squad.
Key player for Chelsea
The Blues see him as a one-of-a-kind player. He is someone who has talent, quality and magnetism in equal measure. That, according to AS, makes him a truly unique player.
He’s their ‘biggest sensation’, although fellow Brazilian João Pedro could also lay claim to that status. His first season in England is certainly shaping up to be outstanding.
His contribution goes beyond the pitch, though. He is also a ‘commercial goldmine’ for Chelsea. There is a belief that he can cause a revolution that hasn’t been seen since Eden Hazard’s successful era.
Chelsea cherish him and value him ‘like the great diamond’ that he is. There is even some talk of a contract renewal being sorted sooner rather than later.
That would make plenty of sense, particularly after a World Cup where he’ll be a key player for Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil.
Impressive record already
For now, the focus is on a strong end to the season before that. Estêvão is already impressing in the numbers, with seven goals and two assists in 31 games in all competitions this season.
He’s already Chelsea’s youngest player with an assist, their youngster Champions League scorer and the youngest Brazilian to score a Premier League winner.
He is also only the third teenager in history to score in his first three Champions League starts. The others are Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland.
That’s esteemed company, to say the least, and it seems Chelsea are planning for him to be a superstar like them before too long.
