Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has voiced his admiration for Julián Álvarez and believes the striker would be an ideal signing for the North London club if an opportunity arises in the summer transfer window.
Álvarez has built a strong reputation as one of the most dynamic forwards in world football in recent seasons. Known for his intelligent movement, pressing ability and clinical finishing, the Argentine international has impressed at both club and international level. His performances have led to growing speculation about his long-term future and whether Premier League clubs could attempt to lure him away.
Parlour, a key member of Arsenal’s famous late-1990s and early-2000s sides, believes the striker possesses the qualities needed to thrive in English football. Speaking about *ARSENAL*’s potential transfer targets, the former midfielder reportedly suggested that Álvarez’s work rate and versatility would make him a perfect fit for the current squad.
Parlour told Metro via BetMGM:‘For me, Alvarez would be a great addition to the squad. There will always be people coming and going in the summer because it’s a big squad and they can’t keep everyone happy. But Alvarez would be a fantastic option to have with his pace and what we saw at Man City.
‘It was always going to be difficult for him playing with Erling Haaland there but when he did start and when he did play, he was always lively.
‘He’s a young man too, so if he’s available it’s a yes for me. When know how Arteta likes to work with young players to make them better so I think it would be a great addition, definitely.’
ARSENAL have made significant progress under manager Mikel Arteta, developing into one of the most exciting teams in the Premier League. However, there has been ongoing debate about whether the club needs another top-class striker to strengthen their title challenge.
Álvarez is capable of playing both as a central striker and in deeper attacking roles, a versatility that could appeal to Arteta. His ability to press defenders aggressively and link play between midfield and attack aligns closely with Arsenal’s current high-energy style.
Of course, any potential deal would likely prove complicated. Álvarez is currently under contract at Manchester City, one of Arsenal’s main rivals in the race for domestic and European honours. Convincing City to sell a player of his quality to a direct competitor would be extremely difficult.
There is also the financial aspect to consider. Any move for a player of Álvarez’s calibre would likely require a significant transfer fee as well as substantial wages.
Still, Parlour’s comments reflect a growing belief among some ARSENAL supporters that the club could benefit from adding another elite attacking option. Whether the club ultimately makes a move remains to be seen, but the idea of Álvarez leading the line at the Emirates Stadium is one that continues to spark debate ahead of the summer transfer window.
