Chelsea advanced to the FA Cup quarter finals, but were taken to extra time by Wrexham after the game finished 2-2 in normal time.
However, goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Joao Pedro in the extra period gave Chelsea a 4-2 win and spared their blushes.
Robert Sanchez has had his confidence knocked by Liam Rosenior
Rosenior as expected heavily rotated the team with Wednesday’s Champions League clash against PSG in mind, with nine changes made to the side which beat Aston Villa.
After surprisingly being dropped against Villa, Sanchez was back between the sticks, with Jorgensen surprisingly not named in the squad, in a possible hint he’s set to play in Paris.
Sanchez should have done better with Wrexham’s opening goal, and was far too indecisive as the Blues were caught out by a simple ball over the top.
Having had a good season to date, the poor performance against Arsenal and being dropped against Villa seem to have impacted the Spaniard.
In fact Gill believes Rosenior has effected Sanchez’s confidence, and claimed the goalkeeper looked “riddled with nerves” against Wrexham.
“In axing Sanchez, however, Rosenior has seemingly dropped his confidence also,” he told Mail Sport.
“Here at Wrexham’s Racecourse Ground, Chelsea’s goalkeeper appeared riddled with nerves as he was rarely sure he was making the right decision.”
Mike Penders knocking on the door
Rosenior has stated on a number of occasions he doesn’t work with a number one goalkeeper, and it appears Sanchez and Jorgensen will battle it out for the rest of the season.
It’ll be interesting to see how much rotation there is between now and the end of the season, with youngster Mike Penders also waiting in the wings.
