Bayern Munich are hesitating over whether to hand Liverpool transfer target Michael Olise a new contract, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.

Writing on his personal website, CF Bayern Insider, Falk said that the Bundesliga champions are faced with a “complicated situation”, with other players also looking to sign extensions:

“With three years left on Olise’s current terms, Bayern have time on their hands. But, of course, they also heard that Liverpool are interested and Manchester City is watching the player.”

“But they also have the Konrad Laimer contract negotiations to think about, the Harry Kane negotiation… It’s a complicated situation. What if you sign one player until 2031 and then the others say, ‘Hey, I want a longer contract’?”

Where does this leave Liverpool?

The Reds’ interest in Olise was dismissed by another German source earlier this week, but Falk’s remarks appear to suggest that there is still hope for a move this summer.

Olise is not one of Bayern’s highest earners, taking home around £224,000 a week before tax. That is £100,000 a week less than Jamal Musiala.

Considering how many goals and assists he has contributed in all competitions this campaign (38), the 24-year-old may feel that he should be rewarded. That may be how Liverpool persuade him to leave the Allianz Arena. Buy a Reds 3D mug from Printerval here.

Olise’s asking price would still be sky high

Even if the Reds did agree personal terms with the Frenchman, though, finding common ground with Bayern over the transfer fee would be fraught with difficulty.

As Falk mentions, Olise still has over three years left on his contract, so his value will not depreciate in the next 18 months. He could cost well in excess of £100m, and for any such offer to be tabled, Champions League qualification is an absolute necessity.
