Norway boss Stale Solbakken has revealed that Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard could be unavailable until “late March”.

The attacking midfielder has been suffering with a knee issue that has sidelined him for the last two fixtures, and while Solbakken was keen to play down any fears that he could miss the World Cup, he let slip that the player is unlikely to be back for several weeks:

“There is nothing serious about Martin. The most important thing is that he recovers completely and is good for us in the summer.”

“For those of us who care about the World Cup, it’s not a disaster that he’s getting some breaks now. He’s going to rebuild and be crucial for Arsenal in April/May and maybe late March.”

How many games could Odegaard miss?

The Gunners have five games between now and the next international break. They will take on Mansfield this weekend, before playing the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie against Bayer Leverkusen in Germany midweek.

Arteta’s men then face Everton next Saturday before the return leg against Leverkusen at the Emirates. The Carabao Cup final against Manchester City is scheduled for Sunday, 22nd March. That would qualify as “late March”, so that may be when we will see the Norwegian international in action once again. Buy an Arsenal kit from Classic Football Shirts here.
