Cleveland Browns News and Rumors 03/08/26: Doggedness and Dawgedness

CLEVELAND, OHIO (TheOBR.com)

THE DAILY BLOVIATION

Good morning, Cleveland Browns fans!

Journalists need to be a persistent bunch to get the answers they need. I lack the doggedness, personally, to be a really good one, plus I don't feel comfortable bothering people when they don't want to be bothered, which makes me an unlikely candidate to be a journalist. Instead, I'm a writer, avoiding the hard work of turning up facts, yet still unafraid to face a blank digital sheet like the one before me each morning before 6AM. Like now. That takes a different type of courage.

Or stupidity. Right. I'm starting to lean more in that direction, frankly. You think the Daily Bloviation is specious now? Wait until June when there's nothing to write about for weeks at a time.

Nonetheless, this piece has spawned a handful of imitators in the Browns media/fanblog niche, and I wish them luck in keeping up the pace for over six years as I have. There are some mornings - this one, for instance - when I'm dealing with medications and a poor night's sleep the evening before, when I consider taking a day off. But, nope, not going to start that. Browns fans have been denied so much over the past 30 years or so. Who am I to deprive both of my loyal readers of their cherished Massive Morning Missive?

You know who else is dogged, besides real journalists? Desperate clickbait writers look to meet their page-view quota so they don't get fired.

For their purposes, a major national conversation right now centers on Myles Garrett's trade value. One national outlet took a deep look at where he might land and what he'd fetch in a deal, using the Maxx Crosby trade to the Baltimore Ratbirds as a comparable. The Rats gave up significant draft capital to acquire Crosby, which is the kind of data point that intrigues a certain group of Browns fans intrigued by the prospect of a complete teardown and rebuild. The Browns have consistently maintained that Garrett is not available. Unfortunately, as long as the team continues to struggle and needs a big influx of talent, these speculative articles aren't going away anytime soon.

You don't trade away the NFL's best defensive player as he progresses to the Hall of Fame. You just don't.

Also dogged? Me pitching OBR subscriptions. Starting today, you can get three months of the OBR for the price of just one by using the coupon code 3mobrfor1. Just buy a monthly subscription, enter that code when you check out, and you get enough coverage to take you through the draft and beyond.

Today's other headline is the Denzel Ward contract restructure, which the Browns used to free up salary cap space as they navigate the upcoming free agency period. Ward's roster bonus was converted to create cap savings, giving the front office more financial flexibility heading into what should be a busy offseason. Denzel Ward, like Garrett, is a cornerstone player for the Browns, and so the contract restructuring is a sign of nothing other than that team's need to get more flexibility prior to free agency.

On the quarterback front, the national narrative is in full swing as free agency looms. Kyler Murray to the Vikings remains the betting favorite, which tells you where the smart money thinks he's headed. Meanwhile, on the AFC North front, Tyler Huntley has re-signed with Baltimore on a two-year deal, keeping a familiar face in the division and ruining the day for those analysts who had been pegging him to come to Cleveland.

Have a good one! GO BROWNS!

Why You Feel Rejected When Nothing is Happening: How to Stop Catastrophizing if Someone Doesn't Text You Back

Not too long ago, I got upset about a situation like this. An old compadre I had worked with for quite a few years wasn't responding to my texts wishing him good luck on a new job. So, my brain decided to chew on this and blow it up into a sort of personal rejection or confirmation of my irrelevance, since our paths were now unlikely to cross again. I was upset and checked frequently to see if he had responded. Turns out he was just busy getting settled. It's easy to build these things up in your mind. This is where I find mindfulness to be helpful - sort of looking at your own feelings analytically and trying to understand them. If you're anything like me and deal with a runaway brain at times, it's a Godsend.
