Cade Cunningham says he is the best American basketball player
Following a tough loss against the Brooklyn Nets, the Detroit Pistons will be back on the court on Sunday, March 8, to take on the Miami Heat.
Heading into the game, the Pistons have some injury concerns, with their All-Star Cade Cunningham as the headliner on the injury report.
A quad injury downgraded Cunningham for the Brooklyn matchup at home this weekend. Although the door was left open for Cunningham to play, he was ultimately ruled out. Before the game, Pistons head coach JB Bickerstaff offered an update on the star guard.
“Deuce, I think, will be more day-to-day,” Bickerstaff told reporters before the matchup. “We’ll just keep an eye on him. We’ll see how he responds and how he recovers, but hopefully, it’s not a long-term thing.”

For the Sunday matchup, the Pistons don’t have an official status on Cunningham just yet. Considering the plan is to approach each day with a question mark for Cunningham, he could be considered a game-time decision. The injury report on Sunday afternoon will offer more clarity on the situation.
Cunningham’s last game occurred on March 5. The Pistons were facing the San Antonio Spurs on the road. Cunningham appeared on the court for nearly 40 minutes. The star guard struggled with his shot for the second-straight game, going just 10-26 from the field.

The veteran guard accounted for 26 points, eight assists, and four rebounds. The Pistons dropped a second-straight game with a blowout loss against the Spurs.
Without Cunningham, the Pistons started Marcus Sasser and Daniss Jenkins on Saturday. Sasser logged 29 minutes, scoring eight points and four assists. Jenkins checked in for 35 minutes to score 11 points, while racking up nine assists.
Tobias Harris led the Pistons in scoring with 18 points on 8-14 shooting. The Nets defeated the Pistons 107-105.
In addition to Cunningham, the Pistons could miss a couple of starters. Ausar Thompson suffered an ankle injury recently, which led to his downgrade against the Nets. JB Bickerstaff wasn’t as optimistic about Thompson’s playing status moving forward. He is likely going to be out for Sunday’s game.

The veteran center Jalen Duren was another name on the injury report, though he got the nod to play against Brooklyn. As Duren deals with back spasms, he is a name to keep an eye on ahead of the back end of the back-to-back set.
The Pistons and the Heat are scheduled for a 6 PM ET tip.
