Report: Andy Robertson clears up Liverpool contract stance as Alexis Mac Allister claim contradicts reports

Andy Robertson and Alexis Mac Allister are front and centre in Liverpool contract speculation, with updates emerging.

Following on from the Friday night win at Molineux, where Robertson led Liverpool to a 3-1 win, speculation has ripened again around his future at the club.

He has made it clear that he’s all-in at Anfield until he’s no longer needed.

As for Mac Allister, his situation is less urgent but a greater cause for concern — especially after Ryan Gravenberch’s contract renewal was announced.

Andy Robertson states commitment to Liverpool

After a Player of the Match display against Wolves, Robertson addressed the press in the mixed zone (via ESPN), where he painted a clear picture of his mindset as we near the expiry of his Liverpool contract.

On the links to Spurs in January, he says it wasn’t a difficult decision: “There were discussions had with both sets of clubs. But the decision was that I wanted to stay. We stayed at Liverpool and that was the decision made.

“I was never not committed. I’ve been committed to Liverpool for the last eight and a half or nine years now and I’ll be committed until I’m no longer needed.”

The ball is now well and truly in Liverpool’s court, but the Scotland international says we shouldn’t expect wide coverage on the negotiations.

Reflecting on his future, Robertson explains: “I’ve always said that will stay between me and the club. I don’t think it will get played out in public. It is not one of them. I have an amazing relationship with Richard (Hughes) and with Mike Gordon and Michael Edwards.

“I’ve had a good relationship with these people and these people brought me to the football club. They have helped make me who I am, so in that respect, we’ve had a fantastic relationship. I think out of respect to them, and they have respected me, then the conversations will be in-house.”

Robertson could well leave in the summer, but that’s not something we’re going to find out any time soon.

Alexis Mac Allister’s father shuts down extension rumours after Gravenberch agreement

Moving into the midfield, Mac Allister is attracting interest from Real Madrid and there were reports of negotiations being underway with Liverpool to stave off their interest.

Carlos Mac Allister, his father and agent, poured cold water on those claims. He told winwin: “There are no negotiations with Liverpool to renew the contract.”

This comes less than 24 hours after Gravenberch’s four-year extension was announced. The new contract locks him down at Liverpool until 2032.

These two pieces of news — when looked at together — suggest Mac Allister isn’t guaranteed to stay at the club. Just like Gravenberch before Saturday’s announcement, the Argentine’s contract expires in 2028.

Liverpool have locked the Dutchman down but have yet to enter talks with Mac Allister. It could be a sign that he is less of a long-term priority.

Sure, there are still two more seasons on his deal, but if he sees his teammates negotiating for bigger wage packages, it could cause the World Cup-winner to question his place at the club and agitate for a move.
