Reports linking Chelsea with a summer move for Darwin Núñez have sparked a lively reaction among Blues supporters on social media, with fans divided over the prospect of the striker returning to the Premier League.
According to emerging transfer reports, CHELSEA have made contact regarding the availability of the Uruguayan forward ahead of the summer window, with the 26-year-old’s future in Saudi Arabia reportedly uncertain. While no formal bid has been made, the suggestion of early discussions has been enough to ignite debate across fan forums and platforms including X.
Many supporters welcomed the rumour, arguing Núñez’s pace, physicality and chaotic attacking style could add a different dimension to Chelsea’s frontline: “People laugh at Núñez but he creates absolute havoc for defenders,” one supporter wrote in a widely shared post. “Put him in this Chelsea team and he’d get plenty of chances.”
Another fan suggested the striker’s underlying numbers indicate there is a more clinical forward waiting to emerge: “He gets into the right positions constantly. If he sharpens up his finishing he could easily be a 20-goal striker in the Premier League,” the post read.
However, the reports were met with scepticism by other Chelsea followers who questioned whether the club should pursue a player whose finishing has been inconsistent since arriving in England.
“Núñez works hard but we need someone reliable in front of goal,” one fan commented. “Chelsea have had enough attackers who are good at everything except finishing.”
Some supporters also raised concerns about the potential cost of any deal, noting Liverpool would likely demand a significant fee for a player still under a long-term contract.
“Why spend big on Núñez when we could invest that money in a more proven goalscorer?” another user wrote.
Despite the mixed reaction, the rumour has generated significant engagement online, with thousands of posts analysing how the striker might fit into Chelsea’s tactical system. Several fans pointed to his pressing ability and relentless movement as attributes that could suit the club’s high-energy attacking approach.
Núñez joined Liverpool in 2022 and remained a polarising figure throughout his time at Anfield. While his work rate and chance creation have been widely praised, his erratic finishing has often drawn criticism and that is why he was let go to Saudi Arabia.
Whether CHELSEA’s reported interest develops into concrete negotiations remains to be seen. For now, though, the possibility of Núñez swapping Saudi Arabia for west London has already ensured one thing: Blues supporters are firmly split on whether he should lead their line next season.
