Liverpool boosted after new claim regarding£54m"gem"who"makes a pass like Toni Kroos"

Liverpool could reportedly be an option for Real Madrid centre-back Dean Huijsen this summer, with the Spanish giants possibly selling him.

A new centre-back is a must for the Reds when the 2025/26 season reaches its conclusion, even though Jeremy Jacquet is already joining from Rennes.

At 34, Virgil van Dijk can’t go on forever at the heart of Liverpool’s defence, while doubts continue to surround Ibrahima Konate’s future, with a contract extension not yet agreed.

Now, according to a report from Spain [via Caught Offside], the Merseysiders could be in the mix to sign Huijsen from Madrid, should they decide to offload him this summer.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the Spain international in the past, and he may be allowed to leave for as little as £54m in the summer transfer window.

Last year, Fabrizio Romano talked up Huijsen moving to Anfield on X, saying: “Dean Huijsen scores, gets his 4th MOTM Award… with his future set to be decided soon, probably this month. Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are all involved in the race to sign Spanish CB with £50m release clause. The ‘Chill guy’, assessing all options ahead of decision.”

Dean Huijsen a superb young option for Liverpool

In truth, it would be a big surprise if Madrid decided to sell Huijsen after just one season at the Santiago Bernabeu, considering what a highly-rated centre-back he is.

Still only 20 years of age, he has held his own at arguably the biggest football club in the world, making 17 starts in La Liga this sason, and captain Federico Valverde has heaped praise on his natural talent, saying: “Dean Huijsen carries the ball very well and makes a pass like Toni Kroos.”

Huijsen would be a superb option for Liverpool, especially at a potentially low price by modern standards, having the technical quality and leadership to be the heir to Van Dijk when he eventually moves on.

As mentioned, though, it would come as a shock if he wasn’t still a Madrid player at the beginning of next season, and they would be unwise to dispose of such a big defensive talent.
