The Scottish full back will see his current deal with Liverpool expire this summer.
Andrew Robertson was the subject of intense transfer speculation in the January transfer window as Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur both came close to signing the left-back.
Despite interest, particularly from Spurs, Robertson has made a point of mentioning that his commitment to Liverpool FC never wavered during that time.
“There was obviously interest there. there was discussions had with both sets of clubs. But the decision was that I wanted to stay. I was never not committed. I’ve been committed to Liverpool for the last eight and a half or nine years now and I’ll be committed until I’m no longer needed.”
“That’s always been my mindset. This club has given me everything and I’ve given this club everything.
“It’s been a fantastic relationship so hopefully that continues and obviously January happened, but it is now gone. Now we move forward.”
“My focus never came off trying to help the lads on the pitch and in training.”
He is currently in his ninth season at the club, proving that he has had what it takes to compete for a top club for the majority of his career.
The full-back has seen his playing time reduced since the arrival of Milos Kerkez last summer.
However, if the 31-year-old’s performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup on Friday was anything to go by, it is proof that he still has so much to offer.
Despite the obvious fact that Andrew Robertson is invaluable to the club on and off the pitch, his future still remains very uncertain.
Robertson will depart Liverpool for free in the summer if no agreement is reached on a contract extension.
So far, there has been no news of a breakthrough and no updates that talks have been nearing any sort of conclusion.
However, in a new interview with Andy Robertson, he may have just hinted at when he intends to make a decision over his future.
Speaking to The Times, he said:
“I’ve always said that will stay between me and the club. I don’t think it will get played out in public. It is not one of them.”
“I have got an amazing relationship with Richard (Hughes), Mike Gordon and Michael Edwards. These people brought me to the football club. They have helped make me who I am.”
“I think out of respect to them, and they have respected me, then the conversations will be in-house. When a decision is made, and we’re getting to the point where I only have three months left on my contract, it will be announced to you guys.”
If the mention of three months is a sign of when he will make his decision, we should be expecting some sort of update towards the end of March.
Andrew Robertson has been a key part of all of Liverpool’s success over the past decade and his presence in the dressing room is something Liverpool should be looking to hold on to, not let go of.
