Seahawks predicted to have lackluster spending offseason for two big reasons

The Seattle Seahawks, coming off winning Super Bowl 60, are entering the offseason with around $58 million in cap space to work with.

With so much space, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Seahawks spent a bit this offseason on top players. At least, that should be the case.

According to Brady Henderson of ESPN, the Seahawks' offseason might be a bit more lackluster. The reason why is simple: there are two massive reasons for the Seahawks to be conservative with their spending.

Seahawks predicted not to overspend for two big reasons

"What do you expect to happen: Not overpay for an offensive lineman - or anyone else," Henderson writes.

Henderson isn't expecting the Seahawks to overspend to land top free agents this offseason. Despite the nearly $58 million in cap space, Seattle is not likely to use all of that on free agents.

There are two reasons, or two players, as to why the Seahawks won't spend so much money this offseason. The massive looming extensions for superstars Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Devon Witherspoon will make the Seahawks spend less than normal this offseason.

While they could use an upgrade at right guard over Anthony Bradford, or a top running back or cornerback to replace their outgoing free agents, the Seahawks locking down their top two players in Witherspoon and Smith-Njigba is far more important.

Both are going to land deals north of $30 million per-year, with Smith-Njigba potentially landing a deal closer to $40 million than $30 million per-year this offseason.

Those will be massive cap hits for the Seahawks. While those big deals will mean other players are lost to free agency, keeping Smith-Njigba and Witherspoon is the most important thing for the Seahawks going forward as a franchise.
