Lavia has once again missed a large part of the season with injury issues, but has now appeared in each of Chelsea’s last three games.

The Belgian came off the bench against Arsenal and Aston Villa, whilst he was named in the starting line-up against Wrexham.

Liam Rosenior on the importance of Romeo Lavia

Lavia came through an hour on his first start since November, and as expected looked rusty and struggled to keep up with the pace of the game at times.

However, Rosenior defended his performance and urged for patience given the 22-year-old has been out for four months.

Rosenior expressed his delight at both Lavia and Dario Essugo playing an hour, and the Englishman believes we’re approaching a point in the season where Lavia can be very important.

“We are coming into a period of games where Romeo Lavia can be really important for us,” he said as quoted on X.com.

“He has to play minutes. We have to get him up to speed.”

Chelsea looking for a new midfielder in the summer

Whilst Lavia and Essugo continue to get back up to speed, the Blues are said to have made a new midfielder a priority this summer.

Chelsea are thought to want to ease the burden on Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, and have already been linked with a host of names.
