Multiple Insiders Predict Patriots Will Cut Veteran After Five Seasons With Team

The New England Patriots have some tough decisions to make in the coming weeks, and what they do with Christian Barmore is in the spotlight.

The Patriots are already planning to release Stefon Diggs when the new league year starts, but Barmore is also on the chopping block. Barmore is facing a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery on a household/family member, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss. He has a hefty cap hit, and his legal situation certainly does not help his case to remain with the team.

Multiple Patriots insiders at MassLive predicted that Barmore would be the next big name the Patriots cut.

"Christian Barmore, come on down," Karen Guregian wrote in response to a question asking whether Diggs would be the only big name cut.

"I think Christian Barmore won’t be here," wrote Matt Vautour. "Will there be a draft trade? A post June 1 release?"

"A guilty verdict would almost certainly mean his time in New England is over," wrote Mark Daniels.

How his legal situation plays out will likely dictate what happens with him. He signed a four-year, $83 million extension in 2024. The Patriots drafted him in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He has played 65 games with the Patriots and has 15.5 sacks, 168 tackles, nine passes defended and one forced fumble.
