The Golden State Warriors are in a tough spot.
Essentially, the Warriors have to keep going for it as long as they have Steph Curry on their roster. And it doesn't seem like Curry is going anywhere.
That sets up a crucial offseason, and NBA insider Marc Spears thinks something major might be coming.
“There's going to be somebody next summer that's going to join him, join Jimmy (Butler), join Draymond (Green)," Spears said. "Whether it’s a Giannis, whether it’s a LeBron James.”
If either of those all-time greats joins the Warriors, it'd be a gigantic NBA story line.
Giannis Antetokounmpo is still under contract with the Milwaukee Bucks, but after he was heavily involved in trade rumors before the deadline, he could still get dealt in the offseason.
The Warriors were thought to be suitors all along for Giannis, so it seems like they'd be right back after him again if the opportunity presents itself this summer.
James is a different situation. He's a free agent at the end of the season.
Of course, there will be the question of whether the King decides to retire. If he doesn't, though, he could pick anywhere.
There will be lots of thoughts about James going back to Cleveland to play for the Cavaliers.
If he wanted a fun change, though, teaming up with Curry, Butler and Green in the Bay Area would make for phenomenal storylines.
James' haters wouldn't like it. But for fans of basketball as a whole, it'd be a special chance to see legends on the court together at the ends of their careers.
The gist of this Spears report is to simply keep an eye on Golden State. A big swing might be coming.
