Opinion: Chelsea youngster walks into Manchester United's team but they're not getting him despite interest

Andrey Santos appears to be attracting interest from one of Chelsea’s biggest Premier League rivals.

Santos is a young and talented Brazil international who has really impressed under Liam Rosenior.

It is no surprise, then, that the Chelsea midfielder has caught the attention of another top club in England.

Is Andrey Santos now quietly Chelsea’s best midfielder?👀

What a performance from the Brazilian!

Andrey Santos would walk into Manchester United’s midfield

Manchester United are thought to be the Premier League outfit who have Santos on their radar, which makes plenty of sense.

Midfield has been a weakness for them for a while now. They have been boosted by the reintroduction of Kobbie Mainoo, who was overlooked by Ruben Amorim.

But Casemiro is 34 now and is leaving United at the end of the season, while Manuel Ugarte has never really settled at Old Trafford. There is not much competition there for Santos, who is one of the form midfielders in the Premier League right now.

At Strasbourg, Santos showed that he can tackle and score goals from midfield. At Chelsea, his job has mostly involved retaining possession and keeping things ticking. He has been brilliant at doing that.

In the current campaign, Santos is completing 51.96 passes per 90 minutes and averaging a pass success rate of 89.6% (via FotMob), which are quite high numbers. Someone like Ugarte, for example, does not look as comfortable in possession.

Santos recently compared Casemiro and Moises Caicedo, explaining what they have in common.

Manchester United’s chances of signing Andrey Santos

Again, it is easy to see the appeal with Santos, but there is very little chance of United actually acquiring him in the summer.

Surely we can just put our trust in Andrey Santos?

Or are the club worried about Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo?

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, while there is interest from the Red Devils, Chelsea’s stance is believed to be that Santos is not for sale.

If United do plan to improve their midfield in the next transfer window — they need to — the club are going to have to look elsewhere. He will not be leaving west London for the time being.
