Troy Deeney thought Nottingham Forest star was unbelievable vs Manchester City

Matz Sels was in fine form for Nottingham Forest as the Reds claimed a huge point at title-chasing Manchester City.

Arsenal has the advantage in the race for the crown now, with the Gunners going seven points clear on Wednesday night.

If they’re both fit, who is the number one goalkeeper at Nottingham Forest?

Let us know who should get the nod in the comments below…

City were denied on several occasions by Sels on Wednesday night, with goals from Morgan Gibbs-White and Elliot Anderson earning a share of the spoils for Forest.

Troy Deeney was very impressed with Sels and hailed him for one aspect of his game against Manchester City.

Matz Sels hailed for commanding his area

It’s not often that the Belgian has been lauded for his ability to command a box since he arrived at the City Ground, but that is what Deeney thought he did well against City.

After naming him in the BBC Sport Team of the Week, he said: “A huge performance from Sels with Nottingham Forest coming back to get a 2-2 draw against Manchester City.

“He commanded his area well and there was nothing he could do about the goals that went in, but he was an integral part in getting the draw over the line.”

Sels is now in a fight with Stefan Ortega for the number one shirt, but with the German stopper injured, it looks as though the Belgian will be restored as the team’s number one.

Forest need new goalkeeper next season

Although Sels deserves immense credit for how well he’s done since coming to Forest, a younger keeper will almost certainly be sought during the summer.

Sels is now 34, and there are some doubts over how much longer he will be able to keep playing in the Premier League should Forest remain there this season.

Who was your Man of the Match vs Manchester City?

A younger goalkeeper who can come in and make an immediate impact would be ideal for next season, regardless of which division Forest will play in.

With a steady squad of players in other areas, a new first-choice goalkeeper should be a timely purchase for Forest in the summer, and hopefully, the club already has some irons in the fire.
