The Suns were one of the league’s more under the radar surprises at for the first few months of the season. At their peak, they were 11 games over .500 at 30-19. They seemed to come back to Earth in February. They’ve gone 6-8 since that high point with a couple of brutal offensive performances without Devin Booker. Booker is back now, but they’re kind of at a level where they beat up on bad teams and struggle against the better teams in the league. It’s a gettable road win for the Hornets.
The Suns are pretty average on offense but pretty good on the defensive end. They have some weird on/off numbers, so without having watched them, it’s hard to get a feel for what works and what doesn’t. They’re unsurprisingly much better with Devin Booker on the floor, but other than that, their positive splits all feature bench players and role players. They’re worse with the likes of Mark Williams, Dillon Brooks, and Jalen Green on the floor. On paper, Brooks and Williams being out makes this game look easier, but maybe the Suns will be better for it?
The Hornets just need to hold serve in the Devin Booker minutes. They should be able to win the minutes he’s not on the floor. There’s a big depth advantage here, and despite the season long records, the Hornets appear to be the much better team on paper at this point.
