Liverpool will get the opportunity to bolster their ranks with some new faces this summer

Liverpool are ‘chasing’ Benfica defender Daniel Banjaqui, according to TEAMtalk. The Reds are being linked with a move for the youngster this summer. However, they could face competition from Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United, Bayern Munich and Barcelona in pursuit of his signature.

Arne Slot’s side are back in action on Tuesday night. They have a Champions League trip to Istanbul to face Galatasaray. The Merseyside giants won 3-1 away at Wolves last time out in the FA Cup.

Liverpool linked with move for Benfica defender Daniel Banjaqui

Liverpool could see Banjaqui as someone to boost their defensive department. If he joined, he would give them more competition and depth at the back. In addition, he could offer Slot something different to pick from in his position.

Banjaqui, 17, is being tipped for a bright future in the game. He has been on the books at Benfica since joining them back in 2018. The teenager has since risen up through their academy ranks and was a regular for them at various different youth levels.

He made the step up into the first-team last year and hasn’t looked back since. The ex-Portugal youth international made his debut against Farense and has since played twice more in the league this season. His current club could now face a battle to keep hold of him down the line amid attention from elsewhere.

Liverpool reaction to Wolves win

Liverpool played well against Wolves in the second-half to progress further in the FA Cup. Their ex-player Danny Murphy said: "Slot's still got a wonderful opportunity to do something special (win the FA Cup).

"I know it's unlikely with the way they're playing because they're so inconsistent. He's got to stay positive and try cutting out the noise. There's a lot of questioning of him from fans and journalists - he's got to keep calm. But after the next six to eight weeks we'll know where we're at with Liverpool."

Meanwhile, Virgil van Dijk said: "The FA Cup is very important to us - like always, but especially this season. Hopefully we can keep going. To get silverware is always our aim. I've been very privileged to experience so many good nights winning silverware with this beautiful club and that's all we aim for."
