Nottingham Forest star backed as perfect replacement for Rodri at Manchester City

Elliot Anderson was the star of the show during a 2-2 draw for Nottingham Forest against Manchester City.

The 23-year-old midfielder could well be playing against Forest for Manchester City next season, with the Blues among the favourites to secure his signature in the summer.

Which of the two players has been better this season? Anderson or Gibbs-White?

Let us know in the comments below…

Anderson scored a brilliant goal to draw Forest level for a second time against City and showcase to Pep Guardiola what he’d be signing if he did get a deal to land him over the line this summer.

After his midweek heroics, Troy Deeney had praise for Anderson and shared why he thought he was so brilliant at the Etihad Stadium.

Troy Deeney hails brilliant Elliot Anderson

Anderson took his goal extremely well against City, and it was nice to see him bring his shooting boots to the pitch for the first time in a while.

After the game, Deeney named him in his Team of the Week and said on the BBC Sport website: “It was one of those performances that make you think he will probably be at Manchester City one day. The goal was a great hit, and he broke up the play really well.

“He also manages to make 25 fouls a game but never gets a card! I think he would be a good replacement for Rodri one day. If Manchester City can’t get Rodri back to the level he was fitness-wise, they need Anderson next to him, or move Rodri on and put Anderson in.”

MORE FOREST STORIES

Anderson is valued at around £100 million by Forest and the challenge in the summer is to squeeze as much money out of whichever club is serious about signing him as possible.

Forest need Anderson to stay among the goals

Anderson’s finish was timely from a Forest point of view, and one area that he’s needed to improve for a while has been his finishing.

Forest need more of this ilk as the season progresses, and the hope will be that he can now enter a run of games where he remains on the goal trail.

It’s hard to knock Anderson too much, given the other areas of the game where he excels, but to become the complete midfielder, he will need to score more goals.

This was a great start, and now, with around two months of the season remaining, it’s imperative that Anderson helps Forest remain on the straight and narrow and continue picking up points.
