Liverpool are aiming to get into the Champions League this season again under Arne Slot

Liverpool have ‘no plans’ to re-sign Jarell Quansah this summer, according to Football Insider. The Reds hold an option to buy back the centre-back in the upcoming transfer window from Bayer Leverkusen. However, they apparently have no intention of doing so at this stage.

The Merseyside giants play Galatasaray away in the Champions League on Tuesday night. They won 3-1 against Wolves in the FA Cup last time out. Andy Robertson, Mo Salah and Curtis Jones got their goals at Molineux.

Liverpool stance on Jarell Quansah return

Liverpool will need to land a new defender ahead of next season, especially if Ibrahima Konate leaves. They gave Quansah the green light to head out the exit door last year when Leverkusen came calling. He has since made 32 appearances for the Bundesliga side in all competitions and has scored four goals from the back.

Quansah, 23, rose up through the Reds’ academy ranks. He was a regular at various different youth levels before he was loaned out to Bristol Rovers to get some experience under his belt in the Football League. Upon his return to Anfield, he broke into the first-team set-up under former boss Jurgen Klopp.

The Warrington-born man went on to play 58 matches altogether and found the net on three occasions. He was deemed surplus to requirements last July when he was allowed to depart. The ex-England youth international penned a long-term five-year deal over in Germany running until 2030.

What now for Jarell Quansah?

Journalist Pete O’Rourke has shared this update: “I would be surprised (if Liverpool made a move for Quansah). I think a lot of people were surprised when Liverpool let Quansah go, but they decided to let him move to Bayer Leverkusen.

“They got a decent fee of around £35million for him, and they do have a buyback clause in that deal which they can be triggered later this year, so if Liverpool want to sign Quansah, then it’s possible to do it. I don’t think it’s probably a top priority for them right now. Liverpool have agreed a deal for Jeremy Jacquet and will hoping they have Giovanni Leoni back fit next season as well.

“If Konate was to leave and not sign a new contract, Liverpool will probably have to be in the market for a new centre back, but I don’t think Quansah will be one that they will be fully pursuing just now.”
