Chiefs linked with top free agency weapon for Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs are almost certainly going to be active in the running back market this offseason.

Whether that is in free agency or the draft, the consensus is that the Chiefs will be looking for a new RB1 for Patrick Mahomes.

Both Kareem Hunt and Isiah Pacheco are free agents, with Brashard Smith likely to see an increased role in 2026.

We have seen the Chiefs be linked with several backs in free agency, and Jeremy Fowler has just added another one -- Travis Etienne.

"Etienne has AFC West love via Denver and Kansas City," Fowler wrote. "Both of those teams could check on Walker and others, too, depending on price ranges."

Chiefs to decide between Etienne and Walker?

Fowler stated that the market ceiling for running backs this offseason could be $12 million, which would put Etienne and Walker right at that number.

Both are seen as top-tier free agents and would inject some much-needed juice into Kansas City's run game.

Of course, there is the possibility that the Chiefs could go after Jeremiyah Love in the draft, but we get the feeling the Chiefs want a known commodity.

Etienne or Walker behind Mahomes in 2026? Yeah, that's a surefire way to bounce back.
