The new NFL league year is a few days away and the Los Angeles Chargers have begun making moves, such as signing Tyler Biadasz and retaining Khalil Mack for another year. With the resources to have a big offseason, it appears LA is still getting warmed up.

ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler reports wide receiver Quentin Johnston could be potentially available this upcoming offseason, when mentioning which players could be on the move.

Johnston, the 21st pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, will enter the fourth year of his rookie deal and still has his fifth-year option available, which is decided by the team.

Dan Granziano reveals that the team has yet to decide whether they will pick up the player’s extra year.

If the Bolts were to trade Quentin Johnston, it could allow the trade partner to decide whether or not they want to pick up his fifth-year option.

Chargers Keep Tabs on Other Receivers

Part of the reason why the Los Angeles Chargers could move on from Quentin Johnston is that they have been keeping tabs on a player on the trade block.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini revealed that the Bolts were keeping tabs on Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver AJ Brown.

Philly is reportedly asking for a first and second-round draft picks, with the Chargers having the 22nd and 55th overall selections in the upcoming draft. It could be possible that if a trade were to happen between both teams, Johnston could be involved.

LA has other priorities (interior offensive line) for the 2026 season and will likely focus on them before deciding to add more weapons to the offense.

“I love our receiver room as is right now. I think we have a lot of really talented, young players that are really going to grow and flourish,” Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz said at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine.

“But we’re never opposed to adding another one. So, we’ll continue to have discussions about that and see where it heads.”

One of the things Los Angeles Chargers fans should be excited about is the addition of Mike McDaniel to the coaching staff.

McDaniel called the Bolts’ offensive weapons talented players when he was in the draft process with the Miami Dolphins.

“You can tell they aspire to be great. What’s more important than ever since I’ve been in the National Football League is you have to have a drive for maxing out your own abilities,” McDaniel said, via the Chargers.

“I think young players that have a love for football and an affinity for football and are willing to put in the work to be great, they have a chance to separate themselves in 2026 and beyond. I see all the young players here fit that merit.”

With the new OC talking highly of the new supporting staff, Quentin Johnston’s future remains unclear.
