Rams make record-breaking $124 million contract decision on Trent McDuffie after Chiefs trade

The Los Angeles Rams have a lot of work to do this offseason in their secondary, and they've already made a few key moves with the re-signing of Quentin Lake and Kamren Curl. But their big move came in a trade.

Trent McDuffie was acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for pick No. 29 in the 2026 NFL Draft, a fifth and sixth-rounder in the 2026 draft, and a 2027 third-round pick. It was a blockbuster for the All-Pro entering the final year of his deal.

But, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Rams have made a massive decision and have agreed to terms on a $124 million four-year contract with McDuffie, making him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history.

Rams agree to $124M extension with Trent McDuffie

"ESPN sources: Rams and Trent McDuffie reached an agreement today on a record four-year, $124 million extension that includes $100 million guaranteed and makes him the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history."

This is a massive contract for the Rams to hand to McDuffie, who's yet to play a snap for the Rams. This contract extension is not official yet, and neither is the trade.

On Wednesday, March 11th, the trade and the contract extension can both become official, which will bring one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL to Los Angeles to plug a hole that led to the NFC Championship loss to the Seattle Seahawks in 2025.

McDuffie is now making $31 million per-year, which is the most for any cornerback in NFL history.

Sauce Gardner previously was making $30.1 million per-year, and Derek Stingley Jr. was making $30 million per-year.

McDuffie beats those marks by nearly $1 million, landing a massive contract with his new team. Now, not only have the Rams spent a first, third, fifth, and sixth-round picks on McDuffie, they're also going to spend $124 million on the All-Pro for the next four years.

It's a big commitment, but a worthwhile one for the Rams, who desperately needed cornerback help this offseason. More cornerback additions are on the horizon as well for Les Snead and the Rams, but this first move is a major one for Los Angeles.
