The Arizona Cardinals appear to be making a move.
Malik Willis is a free agent from the Green Bay Packers after a solid two years as the backup QB behind Jordan Love. And the Cardinals need a quarterback.
Arizona is parting ways with Kyler Murray, and Willis would be a more-than-able replacement.
Willis has started just six NFL games, but he's regarded as the best quarterback available in this class, and his physical tools go along nicely with his improvement in Green Bay to point to a promising future in the league.
The Cardinals may be the favorites to get him, too.
NFL reporter Gery Woelfel shared this on X on Sunday night:
"It appears the Arizona Cardinals have emerged as the frontrunners to sign Malik Willis, who performed quite well the last two seasons as Jordan Love’s backup in Green Bay. New Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur is the younger brother of Packers HC Matt LaFleur. Sources said the Cardinals’ offer could be for two years for about a total of $60 million."

That's a lot of information there.
The last sentence is very notable. It suggests the Cardinals would pay Willis $30 million per year to sign with them, which is at the very high end of what anyone has predicted or reported on this contract situation.
It's also notable that there's a LaFleur connection. That could both raise a comfort level for the Cardinals and for Willis himself.
A few other teams certainly will want Willis for themselves. If the Cardinals get him, it could form a great duo with Marvin Harrison Jr., along with a solid QB to throw to star tight end Trey McBride.
