According to The Denver Post’s Parker Gabriel, the Denver Broncos are re-signing tight end Nate Adkins to a one-year deal. Adkins was a restricted free agent, and instead of placing a tender on him, they signed him to a one-year deal likely worth less than the tender.
Earlier this evening, it was reported that the Broncos re-signed tight end Adam Trautman to a three-year deal, and now, Nate Adkins gets re-signed as well. Both tight ends served as blocking specialists for the Broncos this past season, and Adkins provides some versatility as well. Not only is he an inline tight end, but he has showcased some receiving skills, can play fullback, and contributes on special teams.
He does all the dirty work you need from a bottom-of-the-roster type of player.
The Broncos’ tight end room now consists of Evan Engram, Adam Trautman, Nate Adkins, and Caleb Lohner, but they still could add to this room in free agency and/or the draft. Adkins and Lohner are not locks to make the 53-man roster, and Engram is entering the final year of his deal. So, we could see another signing and/or a draft pick join this room in the coming days, weeks, or months.
With that said, with Trautman and Adkins back, I don’t see the Broncos making a big splash in the tight end market unless they plan on moving on from Evan Engram. They still can take one early in the draft, but I don’t see them dipping their toes in the top-end players in free agency.
Legal tampering begins tomorrow at 12 EST with deals becoming official on Wednesday.
