If Travis Kelce Leaves The Chiefs, Only Two Other NFL Teams Make Sense

Travis Kelce becomes an NFL free agent on Monday.

Beginning at noon E.T. on Monday, March 9, NFL teams are able to legally tamper with free agents. Kelce, 36, has yet to announce his decision on the 2026 season. However, according to a report from The Athletic's Dianna Russini, Kelce and the Chiefs are expected to work out a deal for next season.

"Based on conversations with several teams, TE Travis Kelce appears motivated to return to play a 14th season. The Chiefs remain very much in the mix to re-sign the three-time Super Bowl champion and four-time All-Pro," she reported on Sunday, March 8.

But while Kelce is expected to return to the Chiefs, until he finalizes that decision, there's still a possibility of other NFL teams expressing interest.

But only two other NFL destinations make sense.

One is the hometown team, and the other is the team where his soon-to-be-wife spends a lot of time.

The Browns, Giants make most sense

Kelce grew up outside of Cleveland, rooting for the Browns.

"How about his hometown Browns? He could see that as an attractive way to close out his career, if he thinks the Chiefs aren't realistically in the Super Bowl window for 2026," PFT wrote on Sunday.

The Giants, meanwhile, have his former coach, Matt Nagy, at offensive coordinator. New York is also where Kelce and his fiancee, Taylor Swift, spend a lot of time.

"Matt Nagy, who has worked for the Chiefs throughout Kelce's career, is now the offensive coordinator of the Giants. Although Kelce's post-football career hardly needs a New York City bump, it couldn't hurt to finish up in the nation's top market with a team that is trying to build something positive," Florio added.
