Grading the Raiders’ trade for cornerback Taron Johnson

The Las Vegas Raiders didn’t wait until the opening of free agency Monday to make a key acquisition on defense.

General manager John Spytek agreed to send a sixth-round pick to the Buffalo Bills for cornerback Taron Johnson and a seventh-round pick Sunday.

The Bills had planned to release Johnson for salary cap purposes, but the trade keeps him from hitting the open market.

Grade: A

Johnson has been on a decline since his elite 2023 season, but he remains a good player and by all accounts a great presence in the locker room.

The Raiders have plenty of draft capital and didn’t have to get in a bidding war for a player they wanted.
