Chelsea could reportedly be handed a surprise opportunity to sign Dean Huijsen from Real Madrid this summer—but whether the Blues can realistically pull off such a move remains a big question.
Huijsen, one of Europe’s most promising young centre-backs, only joined Real Madrid in 2025 after Los Blancos triggered his £50 million release clause to sign him from Bournemouth.
The Spanish giants moved quickly to beat several Premier League clubs—including CHELSEA —to the 20-year-old’s signature after his impressive breakout season on the south coast.
The towering defender had emerged as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young prospects during his single season at Bournemouth. Standing nearly two metres tall, Huijsen combined aerial dominance with composure on the ball, attracting interest from many of Europe’s elite clubs before Real Madrid ultimately secured the deal.
However, reports in Spain have suggested his future at the Santiago Bernabéu may not be completely secure. Despite arriving with huge expectations, Huijsen has endured a mixed first season in Madrid, leading to speculation that he could be placed on the transfer list as part of a potential squad reshuffle.
That scenario could open the door for Chelsea. The Blues were heavily linked with Huijsen before his move to Spain and remain keen to add elite young defenders to their project under their long-term squad-building strategy.
Given Huijsen’s age, physical profile, and experience in the Premier League, he fits perfectly into the recruitment model Chelsea have followed in recent years.
Ultimately, while the idea of CHELSEA signing Huijsen is intriguing, the timing makes it difficult. Real Madrid rarely sell major signings after just one season, especially players they believe can anchor their defence for years to come.
For Chelsea, the opportunity may exist—but only if Madrid decide they are willing to move on far sooner than expected.
