Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister’s father has spoken up about his son’s future, amid rumours about a potential move away from the club at the end of the season.
Mac Allister’s future has been a big talking point throughout the 2025/26 campaign, with the Argentine’s form also worryingly dropping off after two superb years in a Reds shirt.
Real Madrid have been linked with a move for the Liverpool ace in recent times, with his father discussing the situation last year, saying:
“Alexis is only thinking about Liverpool at the moment. We are waiting for an offer to renew his contract. We will see what the club’s plan is. We’ll wait and see what happens with the renewal. That’s all.”
Now, he has provided a fresh update on Mac Allister for winwin [via This Is Anfield], simply adding: “There are no negotiations with Liverpool to renew the contract at this stage.”
Is Alexis Mac Allister now expendable at Liverpool?
As mentioned, Mac Allister’s season has been a disappointing one, with the 27-year-old cutting a leggy figure who has been problematic out of possession, being a far cry from the player Alan Shearer said this about in the past:
“There is an understanding from both Mac Allister and Salah. Mac Allister was no doubt the most outstanding player on the pitch, he was incredible. Everything that was good about Liverpool went through Mac Allister. His passing was superb, his confidence was unbelievable, [he had] the flicks and tricks.”
Granted, he should be at peak age, but he has played football relentlessly for years now, both for club and country, and he may have drifted past his prime.
There is a chance that Mac Allister is simply tired and may return to his best next season, but Liverpool may be tempted to cash in on him if Madrid make a bid this summer, or another club for that matter, bringing in a younger option instead.
He is contracted with the Reds until the summer of 2028, so there should be no rush to sort an extension until he shows signs of being at his best again.
