The Denver Broncos have one of the NFL’s most unique players in inside linebacker Alex Singleton — a mix of toughness, skill, and leadership few players can say they possess.

It turns out that other teams might really want that kind of player on their roster. We’ll find out exactly how much on Monday as NFL free agency opens, although 1 Broncos insider is already predicting a robust market for Singleton.

“There might not be a bigger discrepancy between what a fan base believes a player will get and what the NFL believes a player will get in free agency than Alex Singleton,” DNVR’s Zac Stevens said. “In NFL circles, Singleton is expected to not only be highly sought after, but receive a raise from his current $6 million salary.”

Singleton, 32 years old, just played out a 3-year, $18 million contract with the Broncos and is still projected by Spotrac to receive something in the realm of a 2-year, $10 million contract.

Singleton’s Incredible Journey Back to Lineup

The 2025 season was one for the record books for the Broncos, who went 14-3 in the regular season, secured the AFC’s No. 1 seed in the playoffs and advanced to the AFC Championship Game.

No one’s journey has been more incredible than Singleton, 6-foot-2 and 240 pounds, who underwent surgery for testicular cancer on November 7 after the disease was detected in a random drug test.

Singleton missed just one game after surgery before he returned with 6 tackles and 2 pass deflections in a 27-26 overtime win over the Washington Commanders in Week 13. It was the only game Singleton missed this season as he led the Broncos with 135 tackles.

“Broncos are family: As Alex Singleton underwent surgery Friday, Broncos GM George Paton and sports medical boss Beau Lowery sat in the waiting area with agent Paul Sheehy the whole time until it was finished,” 9News Broncos reporter Mike Klis wrote on X on November 10. “That’s caring about your players.”

Incredible Journey From FCS to NFL Stardom

Singleton, 32 years old, just finished his 4th season with the Broncos and is in the final season of a 3-year, $18 million contract.

After starring at FCS Montana State, Singleton spent 2 years on the practice squads for the Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks in 2015 and 2016.

He spent 3 seasons in the Canadian Football League with the Calgary Stampeders, where he was a 2-time All-CFL pick in 2017 and 2018, was named CFL West Division Defensive Player of the Year in 2017, and won the Grey Cup in 2018.

That means Singleton didn’t even play his first NFL game until 2019 with the Philadelphia Eagles, when he was 26 years old. He spent 3 seasons with the Eagles before signing a 1-year, $1.1 million contract with the Broncos in 2022.

Singleton has been a tackling machine since joining the Broncos, with 163 tackles in 2022, followed by 173 tackles in 2023. He tore his ACL in the first quarter of Week 3 of the 2024 regular season against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but still finished the game.

In 9 seasons between the CFL and NFL — including only 6 as a full-time starter and one season in which he only played 3 games— Singleton has amassed an incredible 1,014 tackles.
