Browns ‘Attractive’ to Travis Kelce if He Leaves Chiefs

Travis Kelce #87 of the Kansas City Chiefs is a free agent, and could find a homecoming with the Cleveland Browns 'attractive.'

When it comes to rebuilding the Cleveland Browns offense, starting things off by adding a quickly declining 36-year-old tight end is probably not wise, even if he does have a billionaire fiancée. But as future Hall of Famer Travis Kelce apparently wants to play another season, and as the possibility–however slim–emerges that he could leave Kansas City to do so, the Browns would be a logical landing spot.

That’s according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, and there is some logic there. Kelce has made no bones about his love of and pride in Northeast Ohio, and even if the Browns are not exactly on the brink of Super Bowl contention, Kelce coming to the Browns has a certain natural feel to it.

Florio floats the Giants first, but then speculates: “How about his hometown Browns? He could see that as an attractive way to close out his career, if he thinks the Chiefs aren’t realistically in the Super Bowl window for 2026.”

Travis Kelce a Free Agent

It’s a longshot, of course, that Kelce would seek out the Browns, but as Florio noted, “Until he says he’s playing for the Chiefs, there’s a non-zero chance he’ll be playing for someone else.” But 1% is a “non-zero chance” and still extremely unlikely.

From the Browns’ perspective, even at Kelce’s age, bringing him onto the roster would make good football sense. Though he has been a shell of his former self in the past two seasons, he still went for 823 yards in 2024 and 851 yards in 2025, which counts as good production for most any tight end. Kelce was fourth in the league in yardage by a tight end last year.

Pro Football Focus rated Kelce the No. 14 tight end overall in 2025, which is below his usual standard but still an above-average fit in the NFL.

Browns Would Get a Celebrity in a Travis Kelce Deal

And Kelce can’t be mentioned without the Taylor Swift factor, which would bring a level of attention and exposure to the Browns that goes beyond the Xs and Os. Owners everywhere in the NFL really want Kelce to stick around because of the bonus that comes with the attention of Swift fans.

Denizens of the Dawg Pound might not like that much, but it is a reality of the league. It’s also part of the reason that the Chiefs, the prime benefactor of Kelce’s relationship, are unlikely to let Kelce leave, no matter what it costs them.

Florio added, “Regardless of how he advances the team’s on-field prospect, Kelce would be GREAT for business. And football is above all else a business.”

Browns in Need of Tight End Help

But, back to football. The Browns do need tight end help. There is a tendency in ticking off the team needs on offense to focus on the obvious–quarterback, offensive line, wide receiver–but the fact is, the team has virtually nothing behind second-year man Harold Fannin. We’ve already seen David Njoku say his goodbyes, so depth is a need.

Tight ends are not, generally, overly expensive. Chances are the Browns can find a good veteran to bring in at a reasonable price, and perhaps will use a Day 3 pick in next month’s draft to add another young guy to the mix.

But if, against all odds, the good veteran could possibly be Travis Kelce, that is a move Cleveland would need to make.
