It has been a challenging campaign for Arsenal U18s so far, with the side currently in eleventh place in the table with a goal difference of -8.

The lack of consistency in terms of results hasn’t been helped by the fact that the coaching staff often haven’t been able to select a consistent lineup, with players frequently stepping up to the U21s and others missing out through injury.

In recent weeks, despite some negative results, there have been some positive signs with some of the club’s talented schoolboys getting opportunities at this level.

Midfielders Emerson Nwaneri and Mishel Nduka, for instance, are very good prospects, while left-back Elyon Mbala and centre-back Angelinou Pedro have also been given playing time.

Some of the first year scholars who didn’t feature much earlier in the campaign, such as Patrick Stachow and Saurap Sampang, are now becoming increasingly involved and there are some more experienced players still in the side such as Louis Zecevic John and Alex Marciniak.

Although Zecevic John is capable of making an impact as a striker, the feeling persists that the Serbia youth international is best suited to operating as a winger where he can use his flair to excellent effect.

Midfielders Teshaun Murisa (who captained the side in the defeat to Norwich) and Maalik Hashi have been mainstays this season and schoolboy Kyran Thompson has also amassed a wealth of experience at this level.

There have been some flashes of attacking dynamism from the U18s at times but, as is all too often the case at this level, individual defensive errors have been commonplace.

With eleven league games remaining of the season, Arsenal U18s will hope to enjoy an upturn in fortunes and at some stage there may be opportunities for further schoolboys to impress such as Luis Munoz.
