Two Liverpool players absent from pre-Galatasaray training

Arne Slot’s men convened for their final training session at the AXA before making the trip to Istanbul to face Galatasaray on Tuesday evening.

Liverpool’s preparations for Istanbul have been anything but routine over the last 48 hours, with off‑pitch noise and fitness concerns mixing into the build‑up to the last‑16 tie.

Galatasaray will be without an official away following at Anfield next week after UEFA upheld an away‑fan ban.

At the same time, Arne Slot has had to keep one eye on his own squad after a physically demanding win over Wolves at the weekend, where Alexis Mac Allister was withdrawn in the second half with an issue that’s not expected to keep him out of contention for Tuesday night.

The Argentine’s substitution has naturally led to questions over how hard Liverpool will be prepared to push certain players across the two legs, especially in such a hostile environment in Istanbul.

Now Hayters TV reporter Nazira Yusuf has reported that both Federico Chiesa and Trey Nyoni were not spotted training with the main group at the AXA this morning:

“Federico Chiesa and Trey Nyoni were absent from today’s open training session Florian Wirtz took part as LFC continued preparations for the Champions League last-16 clash away to Galatasaray.”

The Anfield club are expected to release the travelling squad to Istanbul later this Monday. Meanwhile, Arne Slot will address the media at 6.15pm GMT where we will surely get an update on Chiesa should he not be on the squad list.
