Giorgi Mamardashvili sends clear Liverpool message amid transfer speculation

Giorgi Mamardashvili’s first full campaign at Anfield was supposed to be about patience, development and learning under the best in the business – and that is exactly how 2025/26 has played out for Liverpool’s Georgian goalkeeper. Signed from Valencia to provide elite‑level competition for Alisson Becker, he has spent most of the season watching from the bench.

The Georgian has only made 11 appearances this term, with nearly all of them coming in September last year after Alisson picked up an injury.

But due to the lack of minutes, there has been some speculation that the 25-year-old is unhappy and that other clubs are sitting up and taking notice.

In January, it was reported that Besiktas submitted a loan bid worth around €2 million to take Mamardashvili for the second half of the season, including an option to extend the deal but without any purchase clause.

Liverpool ultimately kept him, but former club Valencia are also said to be monitoring his situation closely, with Spanish reports suggesting they would be open to bringing him back if his pathway to being a regular starter at Anfield remains blocked.

And while reports should always be taken with some caution, Mamardashvil has now come out to say that he “does not mind” not playing and is sure his chance will come in a Liverpool shirt:

“My ex-goalkeeper coach, Jose Manuel Ochotorena, when I was in Valencia told me I had to find balance between ambition and patience,” the 25-year-old said on the Reds Roundtable. “So, keep working hard and you never know when your chance is coming.”

“It’s, of course, never easy because there is just one goal! But as I said, if I don’t play, I don’t mind, I have to work hard every day and that’s it. My time will come, for sure. Maybe not this year but my time will come.”
