The New York Giants and the rest of the NFL will embark on free agency on Monday, when the legal tampering period begins at noon ET.
Teams and players can begin agreeing to contracts at that point, but nothing can be made official until the start of the new league year on March 11 at 4 p.m. ET.
When it comes to players the Giants are targeting, SNY's Connor Hughes reports guard Alijah Vera-Tucker, tight end Isaiah Likely, cornerback Jamel Dean and linebacker Tremaine Edmunds are on the list.
"Among the players the Giants are targeting: CB Jamel Dean, G Alijah Vera-Tucker, TE Isaiah Likely and, if the money is right, Tremaine Edmunds," he reported.
Hughes notes that while the Giants have interest in running back Kenneth Walker and center Tyler Linderbaum, the price for both of those players will be too high.
"They were very in on Kenneth Walker and Tyler Linderbaum, but the price simply got too high," Hughes added.
Not surprising there. Over The Cap has the Giants with just $14 million in cap space and the team simply can't afford to go all in on either of those players considering how many holes it has to fill.
The Giants have a need at each of the four positions Hughes lists.
We still do not know if Cor'Dale Flott will re-sign, and if not the Giants will need two cornerbacks. At guard, Greg Van Roten is a free agent, so a new starter might be needed there.
At tight end, the Giants do have Theo Johnson, but they could use a veteran complement for him, and New York needs more pass-catchers in general.
Last but not least, we have linebacker, where the Giants cut Bobby Okereke recently. Edmunds would be a fine replacement if the price is right.
