Middlesbrough manager puts down marker on Hayden Hackney amid Everton interest

Everton have been linked with a move to sign Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney.

It’s recently been reported that Everton could make a £30m move to sign Hackney in the summer transfer window.

The Boro talisman is widely regarded as one of the best players in the Championship, so David Moyes is keeping close tabs.

Should Everton be making a summer move for Hayden Hackney at a reported £30m?

Perhaps he'd be a good long-term successor to Idrissa Gana Gueye… 🤔

Middlesbrough boss hopeful Hayden Hackney will stay amid Everton interest

Hackney produced a sensational performance in Middlesbrough’s 4-0 win against QPR last night, and he netted a brilliant goal.

Hellberg, speaking to the media after the game, heaped praise on the Everton target and noted that he’s hopeful he will stay at the Riverside Stadium.

“He is getting better all the time. I think he gets better every day, and understands more and more about how we work, and the spaces for him,” the Boro manager explained.

“And then, of course, the quality he has is unbelievable to work with. The quality he has as a player is unbelievable. The way he drives with the ball… He’s working on his finishing, and that we have seen with some brilliant finishes.

“He’s a top player. He has everything and he will end up in the Premier League someday, and hopefully with us. Top, top player.”

Boro are currently sitting second in the Championship, and have a four-point buffer on third-placed Millwall.

So, they’re projected to gain automatic promotion, which would certainly strengthen their chances of keeping Hackney.

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be interested in the 23-year-old, who has registered 13 goal involvements this term.
