One PSG star has addressed his side’s struggles ahead of a Champions League date with Chelsea.

PSG star Nuno Mendes has been speaking ahead of his side’s Champions League clash with Chelsea on Wednesday evening. The current Champions League holders are looking for a repeat title this season, but they have not hit the heights of their last campaign.

The Parisiens look far more beatable this season, and Chelsea are looking to take advantage of that over two legs, with the first leg in Paris likely to be key in defining the tie.

Over the weekend, PSG lost to AS Monaco and saw their lead at the top of Ligue 1 cut to just one point, with Lens closing in.

Speaking after the game, PSG star Nuno Mendes spoke about his team’s struggles and what they need to improve when they face Chelsea.

He told L’Equipe: “It was a tough match today (Friday) . We'll approach Chelsea the same way we did that match, with the desire to win. That's our objective.”

He added: “Yes, it's one of the things we need to improve. We lost possession too easily, then we had to run back towards our goal. I don't think that's what we like. We like to attack towards the opposition's goal, and that's what we need to improve."

PSG only lost two games all season in Ligue 1 last season but they are already on four defeats for the season this term. They did, however, welcome back Ousmane Dembélé over the weekend, although their star man was only able to play off the bench.

Dembélé should be fit to start against Chelsea, which will be a big boost. The Frenchman was vital to the success of Luis Enrique’s men last season.

Chelsea will be hoping to end PSG’s title defence in this round, and they do have the added benefit of having beaten the French club in the Club World Cup final during the summer, so they will have confidence they can cause an upset of sorts, although they do now have a different manager in charge in Liam Rosenior.
