Packers trade Rashan Gary to the Cowboys

The Green Bay Packers have reportedly moved on from one of the cornerstones of their recent defensive front with the team reportedly trading Rashan Gary to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a 2027 Day 3 draft pick.

Gary, the Packers’ first-round selection in the 2019 NFL Draft, has spent the entirety of his career in Green Bay. He finishes his Packers career with 46.5 quarterback sacks.

For Dallas, the move represents a clear effort to bolster their pass rush heading into the upcoming season. Adding a player with Gary’s pedigree and experience gives the Cowboys another proven weapon on the defensive line and reinforces their commitment to getting after opposing quarterbacks.

From Green Bay’s perspective, the move signals a shift along the defensive front and potentially opens the door for younger players to step into larger roles starting with Lukas Van ness. With the Packers continuing to reshape their roster and look toward the future, acquiring additional draft capital—even if it’s a Day 3 pick in 2027—adds another asset for Brian Gutekunst and the front office to work with down the line.
