Former Pittsburgh Steelers S Minkah Fitzpatrick is being traded from the Miami Dolphins to the New York Jets, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Jets are sending the Dolphins a 2026 7th round pick in exchange for Fitzpatrick.
Per Schefter through agent Drew Rosenhaus, Fitzpatrick is signing a three-year, $40 million deal with the Jets. A New Jersey native, he lands close to home, too. The deal can officially process Wednesday when the new league year begins.

Fitzpatrick has been on the trade block for several weeks under the Dolphins new regime of GM Jon Eric-Sullivan and Jeff Hafley. But his large contract and multi-year drop in production made for few suitors and limited value.
Traded by the Steelers to the Dolphins less than one year ago in a blockbuster deal that brought DB Jalen Ramsey and TE Jonnu Smith to Pittsburgh, Fitzpatrick now fetches a minimum-level draft pick from the Jets. It’s the latest reminder of his fall from the five-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro Fitzpatrick once was. Over the past three seasons, Fitzpatrick has recorded just two interceptions. In 14 starts with Miami, he notched 82 tackles, one sack, and one interception.
For his career, Fitzpatrick, who turns 30 in November, has started 115 games with 690 tackles and 21 interceptions.
Though some analysts floated a Fitzpatrick reunion in Pittsburgh, the Steelers weren’t allowed to trade back for him this soon. NFL rules require at least two full seasons before a team can trade back for a player it traded away. The only way Pittsburgh could’ve acquired Fitzpatrick was through a free agent signing, something that won’t happen now that he’s been traded.
The Steelers could be in the safety market in free agency and definitely during the draft. Jalen Ramsey is expected to remain on roster but his position is unknown. He could play outside corner, in the slot, or free safety.
